My Sign..

I wanted to dedicate this newsletter to a question that some people asked me after they have read Cosmic Navigator.

The question rephrased sounds something like:

“So, if I am a Cancer, does that mean that I am a Cancer or I have to work on being a Cancer by tapping into the energies of Cancer?”

The answer is as always in embedded within the question. You are your sign but you also need to connect to the energies of your sign in order to live up to your full potential. It’s like asking a scientist: Am I a human, and therefore made of 71% water or should I drink a lot of water to be human. The answer is “both.” You are water and you need to drink water to maintain perfect health as a human. We are born into the sign that can teach our soul the most amounts of lessons possible. Since we develop and grow as souls, each lifetime can be dedicated to mastering another aspect of life, hence another sign. Some astrologers maintain that our rising sign indicates our Sun sign in a previous lifetime. This is a plausible theory but one must remember that to use the word past in the context of lifetimes is somewhat misleading since all of our reincarnations happen simultaneously. Your “lower” or more primitive parts of your personality are linked and influenced by your “first” reincarnations as human, while your moments of aha! and deep insights might be clues and hints you receive from a “future” lifetime where you are sitting under a tree about to attain enlightenment.

If you are an Aries, you are born with leadership capacities, so yes, you are a leader, but at the same time you were born an Aries because you had some issues leading (in “past” lifetimes) and needed a lifetime of practicing leadership. This means that while you have the vessel or cup of leadership and initiation, you have to fill that grail with opportunities to experience and study of leadership. If you are a Taurus, you have the capacity of ability to be an artist, make good money and enjoy life but those things will demand a lot of practice to fulfill. If you are a Gemini, you have a great potential with communications, but how well you will deliver your messages depends on your ability to learn from life’s challenges. If you are a Cancer, you are emotional, but you also have to immerse yourself in the teaching of unconditional love. If you are a Leo, you are a king, but the location of your kingdom will not be easy to find. If you are a Virgo you are analytical, but will you also learn how to serve? If you are a Libra, you can have a great relationship, but it will happen only after you master the art of compromise. If you are a Scorpio, sexuality is your domain, but will you enter it or choose to be in exile. If you are a Sagittarius, you are born with a program called optimistic, but will you upload the file and actually use the interface? If you are a Capricorn you can be very successful in your career, but will you have the patience until it manifests? If you are an Aquarius, sure, you are a genius, but if anyone beside your mother recognizes your spark depends on your actions and choices. And finally, if you have not found your sign before this one, it means you are a Pisces. It is true, you are a natural born mystic, capable of working miracles, but will you ever believe me?

These last few paragraphs can help you understand the conflict innate within each sign and therefore, within yourself and everyone around you. We all know those people, in fact, we are all these people: the leader who needs to assert his supremacy instead of just leading. The artists who thinks art is sacred instead of creating sacred art. The messenger who confuses himself with the message. The mother who loves so selflessly but as soon as her kids grow up, throws at them guilt trips of how much she suffered for them. The king who thinks he is God and the Inchworm who counts the flowers instead of smelling them. The relationship therapist that is now ending his sixth marriage and the healer who cannot heal herself. The teacher who does not walk the talk and the greedy businessman who can never have enough. The freedom fighter who still wants a stay-at-home wife and the mystic who is high on LSD….

This deeper knowledge of the signs can help you find compassion not only to people around you but also to your self.

Here is an excerpt from Cosmic Navigator that illustrates this point

“Kabbalistic astrology reveals a vital component of this entire spiritual system— and indeed of this entire life—in what I call the reverse theory. Leos might pretend to be confident, but they are not. In fact, souls who choose to reincarnate as Leos (or with a heavy Leo emphasis in their charts) do so in order to develop and acquire self-confidence.

Remember the courage-seeking lion in The Wizard of Oz? Taurus is the sign of art, but do you think the Taurus is an artist? No. She is born a Taurus to learn how to become an artist. Are Capricorns patient? Hardly. They are actually the only sign deficient in patience. And so all of us opt for a particular sign to train ourselves in the archetype we lack most.

What is the color of grass? Let me give you a clue: it’s not green. Colors—just like the signs—represent a certain frequency of light waves. Grass appears green because it contains all of the colors (or light frequencies) except for green. When the white light that contains the entire color spectrum hits the grass blades, the grass absorbs all of the colors it contains, but the green, which is not present and therefore not absorbed, bounces off to your retina. Same thing with a red apple—it represents all the colors besides red. Gemini, the sign in charge of communication, simply decided at some point that it would be easier to say “an apple is red” instead of “an apple is all the colors except red,” even though it’s not true (once again, Gemini and their lies).

Leo, then, embodies all the signs except for Leo. And because it is inefficient and tiresome to say “all the signs besides Leo,” or “all the signs except for Virgo,” we simply call them Leos and Virgos. Leos need all that attention—the pomp, drama, crown, and throne—because they lack self-confidence, the very quality that they are supposed to rule. Same goes for you. The characteristics of your sign highlight the qualities you have come here to master. You must work to assimilate those qualities because you were actually born without them. Your primary archetype—whatever it is—simply reveals your potential, your destiny. It is entirely up to you to reclaim it.”

Have a great end of year and I wish you a new meaningful, elevating and successful 2009
