August Highlights

Once again, Mercury, the messenger is Retrograde starting August 3^rd until the 26^th. Mercury will retrograde in Leo (lots of drama) and Virgo (anal drama) but I suggest you hold on with signing papers, making big purchases, or getting married after August 28^th. However, getting divorce, doing a garage sale, reconnecting with people from your past or past lifetimes, reediting, reevaluating, redesigning, reflecting, readopting, readmitting, retargeting, reappointing, readmitting, rebuilding, recalculating, receding, reassessing, recollecting, recuperating, redoing, redefining, reinforcing, reforesting, reforming, refrigerating (WHAT? Just checking to see you are really reading this), refunding, rehabilitating, requesting, rejuvenating, releasing, removing, renaming, repealing, repeating, repenting, repainting, reprinting, replanting, resending, reshipping, resolving, resourcing, resetting, restoring, retaking, restoring, retelling, relaxing, retrieving, retracting, revealing, returning, reversing, reviewing, revoking, reviving, revolting and retrograding is not only allowed but recommended.

In addition, Mercury, the logician is making an opposition to Neptune, the psychic, which is for itself a sort of a Mercury Retrograde. You can imagine the two having a conversation:

Neptune: Good Morning.

Mercury: It’s noon.

Neptune: Morning is when you wake up.

Mercury: If that was true hotels would serve breakfasts all they long.

Neptune: You are jealous I dream in 3D and you can’t sleep from too many thoughts.

Mercury: I am not jealous, I resent the fact that you are lazy and leave all the worry to me.

This conversation or similar ones begun around July 20^th and because Mercury is going back and forth around the cusp between Virgo and Leo, this opposition will continue well into September. Neptune resorts to telepathy as the main source of communication while Mercury needs words to understand what someone wants. Intuition versus objective knowledge, gut feeling pitted against logic, and passion opposing reason, there you have it, all the ingredients for a wonderful Greek Tragedy. With Mercury going retrograde, reason stands no chance, so I suggest you listen with your Third-Ear, see with your Third Eye, smell with your Second-Nose and read between the lines. Messages from dreams should not be discarded and you need a lot of patience with people that project on you their fantasies. Especially affected are Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, Leo and Virgo.

Mars, the warrior, seems to favor Neptune and will listen to intuition rather then logic. There is a beautiful trine, a golden line between Mars and Neptune which allows us to connect action and mysticism, work and dreams. Not a bad time to manifest your wishes. August 16^th and 17^th Mercury joins the Sun -Venus conjunction, making it easy for us to communicate with our work and home partners, as well as write, publish, create, negotiate and doing it in a Big Love kind of way. If only Mercury was not retrograde it would have been a perfect time to get married and consolidate partnerships.

August 13^th Full Moon in Aquarius: a time to connect to friends, spend time in a community, add friends on Facebook, start a book club (yes you can), and master a computer program.

From August 22^nd Mars, the warrior, and Saturn, Lord Karma, square off over the kind of action we should take in our life. This can cause friction, aggression, fights, disease, and harsh lessons. Choose your battles wisely.

August 24^th – Welcome to Virgoland. You are now governed by the Mary Poppins of the zodiac, also known as Super Nanny.

August 29^th New Moon in Virgo, start a new diet, cleanse, work project. It is the beginning of the harvest season, where you can reap what you have sown in the spring. Start a new routine, pay attention to small detail, accounting and editing.

End of August: We will experience a practical triangle that forms between the earth signs with Pluto in Capricorn, Jupiter in Taurus and Mercury, Sun and Venus in Virgo. It is a perfect way to end the summer and a great time to get things done on the artistic, financial and work front. Read More

Hong Kong and Feng Shui

In my travels around the world, I experience interesting synchronicities, coincidences, and serendipities that afford me the opportunities to both learn and teach with much more fun and ease. That is why Astrology ties all these aspects together in a bundle of energy called SAGITTARIUS. The sign that also rules wisdom, travel, adventures, truth, and philosophy. As I travel from Asia, to Europe and finally to America, I will send short videos from different cities capturing a spiritual or artistic aspect of the city, so that you too could travel without having to move. And if you are from those chosen cities, perhaps these V-blogs will give you another reason to love your home.

I am in Hong Kong, reporting to you from Hollywood Rd. Yes, Hong Kong also has a Hollywood but it is a road not a boulevard.

Hong Kong is a place where the Far-East meets the Wild-West, a junction of cultures and crossroad of energies. The island city is considered to be the most densely populated district in the world boasts the largest amount of high rises on the planet – 8000 buildings scarping the skies. In addition, it is a financial hub, managing 33% of the foreign capital that streams to China and yet it functions in relative harmony. What is its secret?

I didn’t have to look too far to find out that Hong Kong is the capital of Feng Shui – an ancient art based on the principle of living in harmony with nature by paying attention to space as well as balancing the masculine (Yang) and feminine (Yin) aspects of life.

Feng Shui translates to “Wind and Water”. After the communist party banned Feng Shui, dubbing it another form of “Opium to the Masses,” the masters of the ancient art fled to Hong Kong and started working their magic on the growing city. Some believe the unprecedented success of the city can be credited to their work. In fact, 90% of the residents in Hong Kong believe in Feng Shui. It is said that there are over 10,000 Feng Shui masters in the island.

The principles of Feng Shui are straight forward and intuitive. The rules make sense:

Add water: having a fountain outside your home is important, it also blocks the noises from outside and from inside. Nosy neighbors cannot hear your private conversations.
A view to the sea, lake or river is important for prosperity since water is associated with growth and abundance.
Don’t sit with your back to the door. In a land with Kong Fu warriors, you want to make sure no one sneaks on you.
Clutter is associated with fear and disease. Get rid of things you don’t need and you'll lose weight, attract love and make more money.
4 is a nasty number that should be avoided. Four is a square, when two people don’t get along we say they squared off. Look at four being the arena where evil spirits spar.
And most important, to allow the flow of Chi, make sure when you come home, nothing blocks your path. Always come into the house through the front door and not the back or garage entrance.

The Total Lunar Eclipse on June 15-16 was extremely intense and many people shared with me their trials and tribulations. From losing their computer, to discovering that their partner had a debt they kept secret to a woman who discovered her husband had an affair with her sister. Indeed the moon can sometimes tell horror stories when she is in the mood.

I had an interesting eclipse story that I would like to share with you and please send me your eclipse stories or add a comment detailing your lunar accounts…

A Toy Story

Everyone has a toy story. Maybe it is because toys are the first inanimate objects to which we attach emotions and through stories and imagination we bring those objects to life. Some scholars assert that humanity’s evolution goes through the same developmental stages children go through. If that is true, maybe our affinity to toys in our early years is a parallel to the worship of statues and figurines our ancestors engaged in during our primitive stages of evolution.

My toy story unveiled itself on the total Lunar Eclipse while I was in Hong Kong. I knew from looking at my chart that the eclipse will effect an area in my horoscope called the “House of Home and Family,” which didn’t make sense to me because I was in Hong Kong, a 16 hour time difference from where I call home these days. I knew that Lunar eclipses tend to unearth deep emotions but what I forgot is that the eclipse was in Sagittarius, the Centaur, a hybrid between a horse and a man, which is also the sign of travel and distant lands.

I was invited to Hong Kong to teach at the Asia Yoga Conference and the organizers put me up in a magnificent apartment building called Shama, located on Peel street 26. The cross street, which I was amused to find out, was Hollywood Rd. I like to pay attention to symbols. After all, I make my living interpreting their meanings. I have no idea if Shama means anything in one of the many languages spoken in Hong Kong, but in Hebrew it means to listen. So I decided I would keep my third ear open and listen to the messages coming my way. The fact that the building’s address was 26, made me raise an eyebrow since I grew up on Freud street 26, and 26 in Kabbalah is the value of the tetragrammaton, the four letter name of God associated with the sphere Wisdom.

Since I live in Los Angeles and from my house I can see the Hollywood sign, it made it extra funny to me that the only way to get to my apartment in Hong Kong was through Hollywood Rd. Signs and synchronicities followed me everywhere, yet I could not figure what it all meant. Am I supposed to move to Hong Kong?

It is said that in places where the eclipse is visible, its influence is more pronounced and indeed, the Total Lunar eclipse in Sagittarius was visible in Hong Kong and she did trigger a great deal of emotions and memories (attributes of the moon) not only in me but in many of the people I met while I was there. I was curious to see how the moon will converse with me, what memories would she weave together, what poems would she compose for me? And I can say looking back, that she gave me a gift I did not expect.

On the day of the eclipse, as I was walking up to Hollywood road to grab a taxi, something made me look to the right. Through the display window of a thrift shop, I saw an object that not only made me stop, but also caused a chemical reaction resulting in teary eyes. I could not believe what was before me. At first I was disoriented, confused, how did he get here? To Hong Kong? Shivers ran up and down my spine as neurons storing memories from four decades ago suddenly awoke shooting signals of ancient recollections. Could it really be? My horse? My favorite toy? My first “real” friend, a gift my beloved grandfather gave me for my third birthday when we lived in Canada, his bequest to me before he passed away a few months later? The horse I insisted my parents bring with us to Israel when we moved back. The horse that influenced my pursuit of gymnastics making the pommel horse my favorite apparatus. The horse that inspired me to work as a cowboy in a Kibbutz. Yes, it was him, my horse that is no longer mine, looking at me through the glass, with his expressive inanimate yet magically alive eyes.

At first, all I felt was pain. As if I got an unexpected kick in the gut. Then it spread through my body and all I could experience was a deep aching in my core for a long lost friend. I felt guilt for abandoning him. However, I soon gathered myself and realized that while the physical toy was indeed abandoned, his spirit remained within me.

I looked at him, as he stood majestically in the window. “They don’t make toys like this anymore,” I thought. But then again, how would I know? I am 43 and haven’t had a toy for a while. It’s never about the toy anyway, it’s about the girl or the boy that plays with them and the scripts they craft around the object that give it life.

I walked into the store and asked the owner if I can take a picture with my horse. All rights reserved to her photography skills, picture is below. I don’t think I wanted to repossess it, as I have no kids as yet and I thought I already had him once, someone else should form memories with him now. But I was curious nevertheless and I asked the kind lady how much the holy relic cost. She took the horse back and placed it in the window, “3600 Hong Kong Dollars.” ($470 USD)

“What?! I can get a real horse for that price,” I replied. 36 is the number associated with saints in Kabbalah, but I was more concerned with the two zeros that followed. “Rare vintage toy from Canada, very important.” She confirmed the origin of the toy and his birthplace. I looked at its eyes, those huge communicative eyes, whoever designed the toy knew the trick, make the eyes big and everyone will fall for it. OK, Moon. I get it now. Horse, Sagittarius, home and family.

I bid my horse that is not mine goodbye. Who knows, maybe it will still be there next year when I come to the Yoga Conference in 2012. Maybe by then I will have a kid and it will be time to reunite with my friend. But what I think I learned from the eclipse is that the buried forgotten aspects of who we are can surface at any time or any place. The objects that we imbue with our emotions can resurrect at any time connecting us to who we are, by reminding us of who we were.

A few important celestial events are happening right now. On June 4^th Jupiter, the planet of expansion and luck has moved into Taurus. It should help us improve our finance, that is, as long as we make the right choices. For the next year, art, design, money, Mother Nature, music, and pleasure will be more accessible to us.

A series of powerful eclipses begun June 1^st and will hit again June 14-15 and July 1^st. The eclipses (especially July 1^st) have the potential of toppling heads of states, CEOs and other prominent leaders. The mid-June Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius is emotional and associated with family affairs, however, it could bring foreign affairs and the plight of other nations to the limelight.

Uranus in Aries Part I:

Today we focus on Uranus, also known as the Jokerman, the Wild-card and the Rebel. I made three Astro-News segments for Uranus in Aries. In the first part, we will look into Uranus’ transit through Aries and it’s manifestation in current events. In the second part, we will see examples of what happened in previous cycles of the Wildcard planet in the sign of war and in the third part we will see how it affects you in your personal life.

Uranus represents the unpredictable, disruptive, and unique. A planet so impossible to categorize, that the mere attempt to define what it rules is an oxymoron. Aries, ruled by Mars the god of war, is the sign of spring, liberation, leadership and new beginning. In June, July and August of 2010, Uranus made a short swift visit in Aries but because its retrograde motion he moved back to Pisces. Only in March 11 did Uranus finally settle in Aries where he will stay for 7 years.

Transcript of Astro News May 6th 2011 Neptune has moved to Pisces, the sign it rules just a few weeks ago. Neptune, the ancient god of the sea, feels most comfortable in his place deep in the Piscean ocean. But when Neptune is having issues with himself, namely, called a Neptune Square, in Astrology, it is considered one of the most notorious aspects. Everyone has to deal with this cycle in their early forties and that is why this Neptune square is dubbed the mid-life crisis aspect. The last time it happened in the United States’ chart was in April 24 1980 on the day when President Carter’s launched his failed Operation “Eagle Claw” which was supposed to rescue 52 Americans held captive at the U.S. Embassy in Tehran, Iran. The reason why I mention this is because as you can see from the dates, 1980-1983 was also the last time the US experienced a Saturn return. Whenever two aspects or cycles collide, the power of the patterns are felt much stronger.

The operation to rescue the American hostages in Iran, as we all know was disastrous, a word by the way that derives from Astrology – Dis (against) Astrous (stars). Eight helicopters were sent, out of which one crashed on the way, one turned back and another malfunctioned. The commanders on the scene requested Carter to abort the mission; Carter agreed but one other helicopters crashed into a plane resulting in the deaths of eight American servicemen. Carter’s presidency never recovered.

About 30 years after Carter’s failed operation, the United States is going through its 8th Saturn Return. On May 2nd 2011 1am Local Pakistan time, using the darkness of the new moon night, Operation Neptune Spear began. Because these two operations happened on the US Saturn return there are interesting parallels between the two military expeditions. I am sure Obama and his staff freaked out when one of the helicopters brushed against Bin Laden’s high compound wall and crashed. I bet they were wondering if history might be repeating itself. But the beautiful thing about Saturn, the rectifier, is that it helps us get out of patterns. So Obama “manned up” as Sarah Palin would have said, and true to the Leo he is, gave the command to continue the operation.

For many, the killing of Osama bin laden had more of a symbolic meaning than a military one. So if it is symbols we are talking about, let’s focus on Neptune. The operation to kill Bin Laden was named Neptune’s Spear. In the progressed chart of the USA for the night of the operation, we see that the only opposition (meaning war) is between Neptune and the wheel of fortune. Neptune is located in the house of self-worth. Probably related to the fact that the operation was a boost for American’s self confidence and trust in their armed forces and the Wheel of fortune is in the house of death and assassinations – giving success and fortune for the killing of the most wanted man in the world.

Neptune is the ruler of Pisces, the sign of religion and fanaticism as well as escapism.

These attributes describe Bin laden to the tea. He is a radical religious man who spent the last ten years of his life escaping. In addition, Bin Laden is a Pisces, ruled by Neptune. His body was given a sea burial. Hmm, considering the fact that Neptune is the god of the sea, I think there is a mythological as well as poetic justice to an end of a Piscean terrorist whose body returns home to the sea. Ashes to Ashes tears to the sea.

I am not sure the peace loving Dolphins are awfully happy his corpse was disposed in their realms. But since he was killed by a navy seal, who knows, maybe he will be lucky and reincarnate as a seal. Hmm…not sure. According to the laws of Karma as described by the sages of India, a murderer of masses cannot reincarnate as an evolved mamal such as a seal. He will have to start his evolutionary climb up starting with an insect or a reptile. More of the zoological future of Osama’s soul in a future Astro-News.

President Obama decided not to release the R rated photos of Bin Laden’s body. But I can predict with certainty that if Donald Trump asks him, he will indeed reveal the long version of the gory images.

Some people are questioning if Bin Laden was really killed in the recent raid. These people are often called Truthers and seem to have the same psychological profile as the Birthers still championed by Orly Taitz who insists that the birth certificate is a forgery. But you know what, seriously, I agree with the birthers. As an astrologer who sees birth certificate on a daily basis, I think that even if Obama was born in the USA it does not mean he is qualified to be the president of the Free World. We should insist on checking where he died as well. I propose to start the Deathers movement. A president of the U S of A should not only be born in the USA but should have also lived and died in the US during his or her past lifetime. So I propose having the Congress pass a mandatory law that would make every presidential nominee go through a past lifetime regression to make sure they were born and died on American soil in their previous reincarnation.
