24 and 25 of March

The 24 and 25 of March we are experiencing the first new moon of the new astrological year. This new moon is intense, to say the least. As Above so Below and it is as if the Moon, feeling our difficulties, reflects these challenges by squeezing in tightly between Lilith (the Dark Side of the Moon) and Chiron (the Wounded Healer). I wish the moon would adhere to the social distancing ordinance and stay away from these two heavenly bodies, but she is stuck there in a tight conjunction, occupying the same degrees in the sign Aries. The wounded healer is not a bad character. He represents the ability to heal from wounds but also the need to experience them in order to be cure. Like going to a therapist to fix a problem in our lives and coming out of the session drenched in tears and feeling worse. The moon's conjunction with Chiron means that we are healing from old wounds, especially those manifested or originated from home, insecurities, family, childhood memories.

Many of us feel full of energy (Aries), pent up and restless but cannot find a way to channel it. Especially now when we are moving into Aries, we are like a fully charged battery with no appliance to energize. In addition to being in close proximity to the Wounded Healer, the Moon is tightly squeezed to Lilith, or better call her, the Dark Moon. Like the Moon Nodes, she is not a heavenly body but rather a geometric point in the sky that marks the furthest point of the moon's orbit around the earth. It is the "moonless" area, the opposite side of the nurturing loving mother. For me this conjunction reflects what we are all feeling. We were bad boys and girls and Mama Nature just told us all "GO TO YOUR ROOM AND STAY THERE!"

I think in the next two weeks, from the New Moon to the Full Moon (April 7-8) we are in very crucial point that can truly define our fight with the crowned virus. I just heard that the Olympics are postponed to 2021. This only happened twice before during World War I and World War II. This means, we are now in World War III, not as futurists predicted against the Soviets, or China, terrorist, or an alien race, but rather a microscopic enemy. In the next two weeks as the moon waxes and grows, so will the numbers of infected but if we make the right choices we can also experience a turning point after the full moon. It is up to us and the choices we make individually and as societies. Going to mass prayers asking Alah to save their country (Malaysia, Bangladesh) or taking your bike to a crowded beach (Huntington Beach, CA) is going to delay weeks into months and maybe years. I think as Saturn (responsibility, lessons) moves into Aquarius (humanity) we are all asked to learn about collective responsibility. The virus works in mysterious ways. You cannot argue "I am not sick, I can go out!" because you actually might be infected and show no symptoms. It forces all of us to think about others.

Crisis

We are now in a global crisis. The word crisis actually comes from the medicine field. Crisis is the "decisive point in the progress of a disease," also "vitally important or decisive state of things, point at which change must come, for better or worse," It was used by Hippocrates (father of medicine) and Galen and literally means "judgment, result of a trial, selection," from krinein "to separate, decide, judge." I think it is interesting that somehow it involves a crossroad, a junction, a decision, maybe even a choice.

Today I was reading an article from the New York Times By Donald G. McNeil Jr. entitled: How to stop the virus, according to scientists and health experts. This passage made me stop and think of how fate and free-will interact:

"If it were possible to wave a magic wand and make all Americans freeze in place for 14 days while sitting six feet apart, epidemiologists say, the whole epidemic would sputter to a halt.

The virus would die out on every contaminated surface and, because almost everyone shows symptoms within two weeks, it would be evident who was infected. If we had enough tests for every American, even the completely asymptomatic cases could be found and isolated. The crisis would be over."

Indeed, the next two weeks leading from today's new moon to Passover's full moon are super crucial. The New Moon represents a push forward, a new beginning. We can decide through our behavior what will be moving forward? The breaking of our collective fever and the healing of our wounds or the descent into the abyss of the Dark Side of the Moon?

I, for one, am optimistic. April 7-8 is Passover's Full Moon, (the Last Supper) and according to Kabbalah, represents a vortex for liberation, freedom from slavery and confinement, and a magical journey full of miracles into the "Promised Land." I truly feel, as a collective, we can defeat the crowned virus and even be better equipped for any other of its viral minions that might lurk in the future, trying to avenge the death of their master.

Let's keep optimistic, stay away from whirlpools of fear and anxiety, and unite in our common situation. Every morning I try to take three long deep breaths and imagine I am donating them to someone around the world that is suffering for pain in the lungs or shortness of breath. Our collective Prana, breath of life*, is under attack and we can all focus our innate birthright, being created in the image of God, to help those around us who are fighting for their lives, fighting for their ability to breathe. When I go running, I think of them, when I meditate, I remind myself of them, when I take my first breath when I wake up, I think of them. And now when you are reading this words, take a deep breath and send it to someone who needs it, somewhere in the world. How ironic it is that the global lock-down caused by a virus that attacks the lungs, improves the air quality of the planet. The air is back, but we cannot breathe...

Stay safe
