What Makes a Place Sacred?

Where the Earth Speaks Most Clearly

Across cultures and ages, certain places have been revered as thresholds between the human and the divine — Sinai and Fuji, Rila and Kailash. Costa Rica is one of them.

According to the Gaia hypothesis, the Earth itself is a living being — forever communicating through landscape, element, and energetic current. Almost entirely a Blue Zone, Costa Rica is shaped by a people whose lives are woven from deep respect for the ocean, the forest, and every living thing.

We invite you to bask in the lush abundance of Nosara, and to learn how to build environments that hold healing, balance, and spiritual connection — how to make the body a temple, and the mind the Spirit that dwells within it.

The sacred exists within you, around you, and beneath your feet.

Bodhi Tree Yoga Resort · Nosara

Your Place Beneath the Bodhi Tree

Eight acres of flowers, waterfalls, and gentle streams on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula — Balinese-inspired sanctuary in the heart of surf-and-yoga country. Open each chapter to step inside.

Set amid eight breathtaking acres dotted with flowers, trees, waterfalls and gentle streams, the resort feels less like a hotel than a living garden. Open-air pavilions for reading and meditation are tucked between the canopy, and the whole property is shaded by the great trees that give it its name. Wake to the call of howler monkeys; fall asleep to the symphony of the jungle.
Rooms blend modern comfort with traditional Costa Rican craft — private open-air showers, stone sinks from Bali, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and balconies that open onto jungle views. Choose the shared sanctuary of a budget-luxury room, or a private room that becomes a retreat within the retreat.
A 25-metre salt-water pool sits at the heart of the resort, ringed by open lounging decks. The farm-to-table Bodhi Tree Café serves organic, locally sourced food — generous for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike — while the juice bar, full-service spa, and yoga studios complete the daily rhythm of nourishment and rest. (All dietary preferences are accommodated for our group.)
A ten-minute walk through a jungle path brings you to Playa Guiones — six kilometres of pale sand and some of the most consistent surf on the Pacific coast, with rideable waves on more than 300 days a year. Because the beach lies within a protected wildlife reserve, no buildings crowd the shore: only ocean, sand, and a long horizon for sunset gatherings.
Nosara is a maze of unpaved roads winding through tropical forest, where houses and pathways disappear into greenery. Howler monkeys, iguanas, and a chorus of birds share the canopy; mangroves and rivers thread the reserve. It is the kind of wildness that makes ritual feel natural — the forest does half the work.
The Nicoya Peninsula is one of only five Blue Zones on Earth — places where people live extraordinarily long, healthy lives. The tempo here is slow, the mood mellow, the lifestyle relaxed. To practice the sacred amid a culture built on pura vida is to learn the teaching by living inside it.
