The Astro Highlights of May 2

May you have a great May!
While there are no significant retrogrades taking place in May, which is great news, it is a month of significant changes and transitions, as Saturn, the Lord of Karma, is changing his garments, stripping his Pisces coat of many colors in favor of his Aries martial arts outfit. The last time Saturn marched through warlike Aries was from 1996 to 1998.
May is named after the Greek goddess of spring, fertility, and growth, Maia, who was also the mother of Hermes (Mercury), the messenger of the gods and ruler of Gemini, which starts on May 22. Additionally, it is the month when Siddhartha was born to Maya (coincidence?), attained enlightenment, and passed away. This year, this enlightening day falls on the Full Moon of May 12. - May 1–3 (Venus conjunct Neptune): Happy Maypole Day (Whitsun)! A time to dance (Neptune) and fall in love (Venus). This tradition started in Roman Britain when soldiers would dance around decorated trees or poles with ribbons in honor of the goddess Flora and the arrival of spring. This year, a 2000-year-old tradition is colored by Venus, the planet that rules Taurus (Mother Nature), dancing with her higher octave, Neptune, the planet of imagination and mysticism. The first days of May are indeed blessed if you can find it in your heart to connect to your inner mystic and artist. This day of intuition can benefit your talents as well as your relationships and finances.
- May 10 (Mercury enters Taurus until May 26): A sense of worry and anxiety, do not fret about things you have no control over. A good time to communicate and market, as well as sell, your talents and gifts. Speak your mind without attachment or inflexibility.
- May 12 (Mercury square Pluto): This is not an easy aspect that can bring about obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. However, it’s a good time to get to the bottom of issues as well as investigate the root causes of problems. Great for therapy.
- May 12 (Full Moon in Scorpio): The Full Moon in May is when the Lord Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and died. While the Moon in Scorpio is fallen, it is great for shadow work, dealing with temptation, and discovering the light within you. Because the Moon falls on the 22nd (Master Number) degree of Scorpio, we can build something out of the rubble of an older project or relationship. In this lunation, you feel the tug of war between “mine” and “yours.” A great deal of passion and sexuality, just make sure you channel it the right way. Since Uranus is also involved in this lunation, take extra heed as there is a Wild Card in this Full Moon that can bring about an unexpected event or situation. - May 17–18 (Sun conjunct Uranus): Everyone’s IQ is getting a temporary elevation. A fantastic day for humor, jumping into the unknown, and embracing the original and innovative. Spend time with friends or in a group.
- May 17–18 (Mercury squares Mars): Spend time with friends while being aware that some of them might make you angry or say things they would later regret. There is intellectual aggression and people could show their nastier side.
- May 20 (Sun enters Gemini until June 21): We are all Gemini for the next 30 days, channeling the spirit of intelligence, communication, and bridge-building. This is a great month for business, contracts, improving relationships with relatives, roommates, neighbors, and folks you consider siblings. Find your message, your way of delivering it, as well as your audience.
- May 20–24 (Venus trine Mars): Once again (due to the back and forth of the retrograde Venus), Venus and Mars are going on a date, and we are influenced by their glowing stardust love. Romance, love, and harmony (the daughter of Venus and Mars) are around you, as well as an ability to see people’s beautiful side. It’s a great time for making money from things you are passionate about.
- May 24 (Mercury conjunct Uranus): A day of ingeniousness. You can get new insights and ideas that can help you in business, communication, and better connect with people around you. Do something intellectually stimulating and share your thoughts and ideas with your peers.
- May 24–25 (Sun trine Pluto): This powerful aspect is all about energy, strength, and the ability to manifest things you desire. The Sun and Pluto are both in air signs, therefore your friends and community can help you bring your projects to fruition. It’s also a good time for therapy, transformation, magic, intimacy, and sexuality.
- May 25 (Saturn enters Aries until September 1): Saturn moves to his sign of fall for the first time in 30 years. This round he is just testing the fire, so to speak, and in February 2026 he will move there permanently for two years. Saturn in Aries wishes to rectify how we deal with our identity, body, anger, and vitality. While Saturn is in Aries, we are all asked to assume the role of a leader and liberator, prompting us to become a Moses, Christ, Muhammad, or Da Vinci, all proud Aries.
- May 26 (Mercury enters Gemini until June 8): Mercury is back to his domicile, and he is happy to unpack and chill. Information, opportunities, connections, and words flow effortlessly.
- May 27 (New Moon in Gemini): A great day to start something new in connection with communication, networking, businesses, marketing, sales, and written projects. This New Moon is blessed by Pluto and Neptune, making it possible for you to link passion and reason, emotions and intellect. There is a great deal of intimacy and a possibility for a lover coming into your life.
- May 29–30 (Sun conjunct Mercury): With both the Sun and Mercury in Gemini, it is an opportune time to deliver your messages, build bridges, write, start new businesses, and make new connections. There could be a connector around you, like an agent or an angel that can bring you to your destination.
