Welcome to 2025! Well, almost, but I wanted to send you the January report on the New Moon in Capricorn so you can start working on your New Year’s Resolution at the right time, NOW! The New Moon in Capricorn takes place in the last hair of 2024 tail, and it is also the reason why Capricorn will not get its own New Moon in 2025. By the way, it is Virgo who snatched it from them by having two New Moons in 2025, one being a Solar Eclipse! Now you know why Mercury, the god of thieves, rules Virgo.

Let’s start…

If you thought you could glide gently into the new year, think again. January comes in hot, heavy, and transformative—a cosmic wake-up call with a side of drama. The planetary alignments this month are not for the faint of heart, especially from Jan 6 as Mars retros into Cancer, his sign of fall, but they promise growth, inspiration, and a healthy dose of self-reflection. As we tiptoe into this year of intense shedding and rebirth, the universe is serving up lessons with a dash of mystery and a sprinkle of magic.

The month kicks off with Mars squaring off against Pluto (Jan 1–5), setting the tone with some tension. Think of it as the astrological version of an awkward family dinner—only with more potential for conflict and paranoia. But fear not! The entrance of Venus into dreamy Pisces (Jan 3) is here to soothe and reconnect us to lost partners from this life and past, offering divine love, creativity, and a little financial sparkle to keep spirits afloat.

The Full Moon in Cancer (Jan 13) turns the emotional dial to max, but luckily, Mars and Neptune’s trine (Jan 10–14) brings a moment of grace, like catching a sunrise after a stormy night.

The latter half of January is an astrological feast. Venus and Saturn cozy up (Jan 18–19), prompting us to get serious about love and money. Meanwhile, the Sun moves into quirky Aquarius (Jan 19), so embrace your inner alien and let your freak flag fly. Just as you settle into your unique groove, the Sun and Pluto throw a transformative curveball (Jan 21–23), nudging us toward profound change.

The cherry on top? The New Moon in Aquarius (Jan 28/29) coincides with the Chinese New Year, ushering in the Year of the Earth Snake. Add to that the North Node’s mystical slide into Pisces (Jan 29), and you’ve got a perfect storm of intuition, imagination, and collective transformation.

So, buckle up and let January’s cosmic rollercoaster guide you. The key to thriving this month? A mix of resilience, humor, and a willingness to dive deep into your soul’s uncharted waters.

Let’s look at the major dates in January. But before, my book on the astrology of the year ahead is available on this link: Shedding Shadows.

January 1–5 (Mars opposite Pluto): Not a promising beginning to the year with the two rulers of Scorpio trading blows. With Mars also retrograde, take extra care as your actions might be misconstrued. There is an opposition between your will and that of your community, company, or friends. People around you might experience paranoia, resort to manipulation, conflict, and aggression.

January 3 (Venus in Pisces until February 4): Venus is exalted in Pisces, and you can now benefit from her mystical plunge. Opportunities to improve your finances, relationships, and artistic gifts manifest. Creative visualization can be extremely potent, and you can experience its fruits faster than normal. Faith healing, prayers, and any form of therapy are blessed. Divine love is in the air. Great for poetry, dance, photography, and meeting a significant other.

January 6 (Mercury square Neptune): The shady start of the year continues, with logic and intuition conflicting. Your gut tells you to do one thing, while your cortex rationalizes a reason not to do it. There could be deception and disillusionment. Hold your boundaries strong and steady.

January 6 (Mars retrogrades into Cancer until April 18): Mars doesn’t like being in Cancer, his sign of fall. Be vigilant of accidents, falling (unless it is in love), and issues with water, leaks, and floods. Conflict can arise with family members.

January 7 (Eastern Orthodox Christmas): Happy Christmas to 12% of Christians who celebrate the holiday according to the Julian calendar. You are done with the 40-day fast and ready for the great feast!

January 8 (Mercury enters Capricorn until January 28): Serious thought, disciplined study, and lessons from mature and experienced figures. Slow your thought, speech, and writing. Be mindful of every word, take your time, and ground your ideas with discipline and strategy to bring them to fruition.

January 10–14 (Mars trine Neptune): At last, some good news. Action is supported by intuition, or perhaps your actions are your intuition. A great day for yoga, spiritual activities, dreams, or any action by or in water.

January 12–13 (Sun trine Uranus): The positive trends continue with brilliance, clarity of mind, and original ingenious ideas. There could be good news regarding e-commerce, technology, your community, and science. A new friendship might be formed that leads you down an innovative path.

January 13 (Full Moon in Cancer): Today is Tu Be’Shvat, the fruit trees’ New Year, according to Jewish scriptures. It could get emotional and a bit aggressive with family and loved ones due to the opposition of retrograding Mars and Pluto. You might feel overly emotional, so be careful of guilt casting.

January 14–15 (Venus squares Jupiter): Be mindful to avoid excessiveness, gluttony, and greed. You might experience immoderation and an attempt to appease everyone. There could be unexpected expenses.

January 15–16 (Sun opposite Mars): Conflict may occur from an unwelcome visit. Be careful not to over-assert yourself and come across as aggressive or pushy. You might feel or act more combative than you planned. Avoid choosing sides or being caught between warring factions.

January 18–19 (Venus conjunct Saturn): Things are getting serious in matters of the heart as well as finance. This is not necessarily a bad aspect as Venus is exalted and Saturn can ground your talents and help you use your gifts in a practical way. Whatever is going on in your personal and professional relationships is being galvanized and crystallized, for good or bad.

January 19 (Sun in Aquarius until February 18): We are all Aquarius for the next 30 days. It’s a time to spend with friends and community, as well as immerse yourself in science, technology, and innovation. Make friends with AI and aliens, and don’t be afraid to be original and somewhat quirky.

January 21–23 (Sun conjunct Pluto): Since Pluto is in the first degrees of Aquarius, as the Sun moves to the Water-Bearer sign, it activates the Lord of Death and Resurrection. There could be a meeting with a powerful or influential person or group of people today that holds the potential to transform your life.

January 23–24 (Mercury trine Uranus): The two most brilliant planets come together to bring new intellectual, business, and social connections into your life. Your IQ is getting a boost as well as your storytelling abilities. It’s a great time for e-commerce and anything to do with futurism, AI, and innovation.

January 25–26 (Venus trine Mars): The two celestial lovers are meeting, bringing a new relationship or helping you harmonize your existing partnerships. It is a great day for dating, falling in love, connecting finance with passion, and creating practical art.

January 28 (Mercury in Aquarius until February 14): Mercury loves being in the fixed air sign of Aquarius. Ideas flow fast, and new friendships form with like-minded people. It’s a great time to make new contacts and reconnect with old friendships.

January 28–29 (New Moon in Aquarius and Chinese New Year): Welcome to the Year of the Earth Snake. Jupiter is blessing this New Moon with wisdom and synchronicity. It’s a great time to start a study group. You might join a group or meet an individual who can expand your horizons.

January 29 (North Node retrogrades into Pisces until August 19, 2026): Right on the New Moon in Aquarius, the North Node, aka “Dragon,” retrogrades into the sign of mysticism, intuition, and imagination. For the next 18 months, we are asked to practice the positive qualities of Pisces: empathy, meditation, any form of trance, movement (yoga, dance, Pilates, martial arts), dreaming, poetry, imagination, and mystical experiences. At the same time, the South Node retrogrades in Virgo, asking us to let go of the overbearing qualities of Virgo such as criticism, perfectionism, and overanalyzing everything.

January 29 (Mercury conjunct Pluto): Obsessive thoughts can make this day a bit intense for your brain. On the other hand, it is a great time for transforming the way you perceive certain aspects of your life. It’s great for research and investigation.

January 30–31 (Sun trine Jupiter): The Sun shines Jupiter’s gifts. It’s a day to feel good about yourself and your community. Wisdom, teaching, learning, and traveling are all blessed.

January 31–February 2 (Venus conjunct Neptune): A wonderful time for romance, art, and movement. Mysticism meets art. It’s a wonderful time to ask the Universe for help in matters of the heart. Be careful of extramarital affairs.
