Astro Highlights of January 2026

This astrologically busy year kicks off with four planets out of bounds, which gives the year ahead a certain unpredictability. However, this month we have a sexy love triangle in Capricorn as the Sun (you), Venus (love), and Mars (passion), come together (Jan 7 – 9). This is great news for lovers and artists, providing the necessary practicality to make things happen. Mars, exalted in Capricorn, will infuse us with extra energy and determination, and Venus can improve our dealings with superiors and bosses. 

There is also a Full Moon (Jan 3) in Cancer, the sign the moon rules. An auspicious aspect to work on things you want to get rid of, especially in relation to family and ancestral karma. Old patterns can be broken by the moon and the planets that are out of bounds.

On Jan 18, there is a powerful New Moon in Capricorn, giving your manifestation journey a big push forward. And Jan 26 is when Neptune leaves its sign, Pisces, after 14 years and starts a new zodiacal cycle (lasting 165 years) by moving into Aries, first of his kind, where it would stay until 2039. The last time that happened was during the American Civil War, from 1861 to 1875. 

Today I visited the Cave of Elijah in Mount Carmel (the original one) to bless some Kabbalistic Red Strings (it must be wool from sheep), meditate, and connect with the ancient wizard. There’s a storm with thunder and lightning here now, the perfect backdrop for this pilgrimage of magic (see images below).

Here are the crucial dates of January:

January 1 – 3 (Personal Planets Out of Bounds): The year begins with a rare cluster of Out of Bounds planets (Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars). When a planet is Out of Bounds, it reaches beyond its usual expression, behaving in a rogue and independent, manifesting in an unpredictable, extreme and unusual way albeit creative and ingenious.

January 1 (Mercury square Neptune): The year starts with confusion and blurred lines of communication – illusions, deceptions, misinformation, panic attacks, and shortness of breath. Be cautious about misinterpretations and disinformation, especially regarding beliefs or philosophies.

January 1–January 20 (Mercury enters Capricorn): Mercury, the messenger, sharpens communication, promoting practicality and ambition. A great period to set clear objectives and organize your plans meticulously. Set long-term goals for the year. Good communication with bosses and figures of authority.

January 3 (Full Moon in Cancer): Emotions reach their zenith, illuminating family and home-related matters. Nurture your inner child and reconnect with your roots and familial bonds. A blessed Full Moon with Jupiter promising a gift. A good time for pregnancies, real estate and healing familial relationships.

January 3 – 12 (Sun conjunction Venus and Mars): A harmonious and loving transit, bringing warmth and sociability. An ideal day for relationships, romance, artistic endeavors, and financial negotiations. The Sun shines beauty, romance, creativity, and potential for financial gain. Mars exalted in Capricorn energizes this conjunction with a great deal of passion and action, igniting new relationships, artistic projects, and financial ventures. Channel your enthusiasm constructively and avoid impulsiveness. This is a powerful stellium, lean into it and be fearless.

January 4 (Chiron Direct): Chiron, the wounded healer, moves forward in Aries, empowering personal healing and courageous breakthroughs in areas you’ve struggled with since July 2025. It’s time to assume the role of a mentor, a healer to someone who reminds you of your younger self or suffers from the same afflictions as you.

January 7 (Orthodox Christmas): A celebration of redemption and hope. Folks around the world sit together for the Feast of the Nativity. 

January 9 (Sun conjunction Mars): The next few days are loaded with opposition, and you might find yourself stuck between two forces. The first is a powerful surge of energy that boosts determination, ambition, and leadership. Direct this fiery energy towards productive goals, while avoiding unnecessary conflicts.

January 9 (Venus opposition Jupiter): Balance desire with moderation. Watch for overindulgence or excessive spending and aim for generosity and gratitude.

January 9 – 11 (Sun opposition Jupiter): Grand visions meet practical limits. Stay optimistic but grounded, avoiding unrealistic expectations or overcommitments. Be careful of your ego inflating or being preachy. Less is more! Since Mars is also opposite to Jupiter, be careful of overdoing, aggression, burnouts, and injuries. 

January 13 – 14 (Mercury opposition Jupiter): A day of expansive thinking but beware of exaggeration or overlooking critical details. Remain precise and double-check facts. Be careful of liars and thieves, as well as not joining their ranks inadvertently.

January 15 (Venus trine Uranus): Surprises in love, art, or finance. Embrace innovation and spontaneity to refresh your life. Humor, originality, and spontaneity can get you far in dating and romance. This could give a boost to cryptocurrencies or e-commerce. The next few days are blessed by a cluster of planets (Venus, Sun, Mars, Mercury) in harmony with Uranus. You experience a strong need for freedom but also originality, innovation, and ingenious ways of solving problems.    

January 17–February 10 (Venus enters Aquarius): Relationships and financial matters favor originality, collaborations, and community involvement. Think out-of-the-box and embrace unconventional beauty. A time to update and upgrade your relationships, gadgets, brand, looks, and style. Romantic relationships can grow out of friendship or with a member of your group of friends, club or organization. Great for making new friends.

January 17 (Sun trine Uranus): Unexpected opportunities arise. Embrace change, innovation, and unique self-expression. Your IQ is higher today so write down your ideas.

January 17 – 18 (Mercury conjunction Mars): Sharp intellect and assertive communication. Excellent for negotiations and persuasive arguments but temper aggression. Words are backed by action. Be mindful that your words can become weapons; take heed of what you write, post or publish.

January 18 (New Moon in Capricorn): Time for new beginnings in your career and status. A perfect time to start working on your New Year’s Resolution, especially if it is long-term and related to your career.

January 19 (Mercury trine Uranus): Insightful ideas and sudden revelations. Keep an open mind to inventive and unorthodox solutions. Brilliance is in the air. Great for coming up with original, unique solutions to persistent problems.

January 20–February 18 (Sun enters Aquarius): For the next 30 days we are all Aquarian – community conscious, altruistic, friendly, egalitarian, and innovative. Aquarius is the sign of individuality as well as the awareness of community and equality. A time to spend with friends and create new communities.

January 20 (Venus conjunction Pluto): Intensity in relationships, finances, and self-worth. Transformative experiences are possible, but guard against obsessions or control issues. Be careful not to fall in love with a sexy, charismatic narcissist. A good time to hunt for investments and work with other people’s talents and money. Good for loans, settling issues around inheritance or shared resources.

January 20 (Mars trine Uranus): Exciting breakthroughs and initiatives. Act with confidence on innovative plans and trust your instincts. The benevolent mad-professor aspect that can bring about a scientific breakthrough or an aha moment in your life.

January 20–February 6 (Mercury enters Aquarius): Communication shifts towards progressive ideas, technological innovation, and intellectual freedom. Connect through community and visionary projects. Winged Mercury loves to fly in the air sign of Aquarius; therefore, it is a wonderful time for updating and upgrading your workflow and communication channels. Technology, science, teams, groups, clubs and new friends.

January 21 (Sun conjunction Mercury): Clarity and eloquence empower communications and intellectual pursuits. An ideal day for important conversations and strategic thinking. Express yourself.

January 22 (Mercury conjunction Pluto): Deep, transformative insights emerge. Delve into research, therapy, and strategic planning to harness this powerful mental focus. Good for communicating with powerful people in your life.

January 23–March 3 (Mars enters Aquarius): Energies directed towards humanitarian causes, technology, and group activities. Embrace independence and innovation in your actions. There could be some conflict or competition with friends or with coworkers. Focus on cardio, team sports or being active outdoors. The second and final entrance of the god of the sea into fiery Aries. A new world order is manifesting. Take initiative and action in matters of imagination, mysticism, intuition, and meditation. Action and empathy meet.

January 27 (Mars conjunction Pluto): Intense ambition, drive, and transformative power. Use constructively to accomplish significant goals, avoiding manipulation or power struggles. The two rulers of Scorpio are joining to give your project and your life a big push.

January 29 (Mercury conjunction Venus): Harmonious communication, artistic expression, and diplomacy. Ideal for conversations about love, beauty, and collaborative creativity.
