The Astrology of April: A Season of Liberation and Resurrection

In the Northern Hemisphere, the mythology of April has always been synonymous with liberation. It represents a release from the frozen, stagnant bondage of winter and a “call to adventure” toward the Promised Land of spring—and, by extension, life itself.
The Ancestry of Spring Traditions
The roots of our modern celebrations reach back to ancient barley festivals, where the first green sprouts to carpet the earth signaled the end of winter’s scarcity. These rites were inextricably linked to the Spring Equinox, forming a spiritual lineage that evolved over millennia:
- Passover: Traditionally observed on the first Full Moon following the Spring Equinox.
- Easter: Observed on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon following the Equinox.
Themes of Transcendence
While their cultural expressions differ, these festivities share a profound underlying heartbeat: liberation, resurrection, and the realization of the divine within. Whether through the narrative of the Exodus or the account of the Resurrection, the message remains the same—life persists, transforms, and triumphs. April is truly a month of miracles. From the ten plagues and the parting of the Sea of Reeds to the symbolic emergence from the cave (the “womb” of the earth), this season invites us to witness the extraordinary and embrace our own divine potential.
Important Astro Dates in April
April 1 (April Fool’s Day): April Fool’s Day traces back to the mythology of the Green Man, an ancient symbol of nature, rebirth, and playful mischief. The tradition of pranking and joyful trickery aligns closely with the Tarot card “The Fool” and the playing card “Joker” — both symbols of innocence, new beginnings, and stepping boldly into the unknown. To honor the spirit of this day, pay a visit to your inner child by engaging in lighthearted pranks, laughter, humor, and spontaneity. Allow yourself to take creative risks, step out of your comfort zone, and greet new opportunities with optimism and joy. In addition, and this is no prank, today is the Passover Full Moon (see below), which is by default the night of the Last Supper. Today you can use the story of Exodus to liberate yourself from bondage. What enslaves you? Who is your Pharaoh? Where is your Promised Land and Mount Sinai desert you must cross and visit in order to reach liberation? Some clarity about these queries manifest today.
